To encourage more electric vehicle (EV) adoption, the County of San Diego needs more publicly available EV charging. But how do you choose the best areas for charging in a 4,261-square-mile county that’s larger than the states of Delaware and Rhode Island combined?
The County brought in the Center for Sustainable Energy (CSE) to help determine optimal areas for public, light-duty EV charging stations in the County’s unincorporated area using the data-driven approach of CSE’s Caret® EV Infrastructure Planner.
CSE collaborated with the County to develop and fine-tune a unique, mathematical weighting of its priorities, including proximity to heavily traveled roadways, commercial areas, low-income communities and multiunit housing. Using Caret, CSE created a customized installation plan mapping the optimal areas for EV chargers.
